Hello Pearl!

Life on the farm got crazy busy real fast!

First of all, shearing day was a great success on so many levels.  The weather turned out great (thank you for sending us your prayers, good vibes, and good luck in that department), and we were also blessed with several volunteers to help us manage the animals, collect the fleece, administer vaccinations, and enjoy each other’s company.  A big shout out to Jean, Sarah, Jean Marie, & Jen for being a great crew!

We also had a new experience: shearing one of our alpacas standing up due to lameness.  Shearing her the traditional way was simply not an option.

We thought it was going to be a challenge to keep her stabilized since there were no restraints involved, so we were all very impressed by her willingness to stand with minimal assistance.

And then two days later: we had our first cria!
Meet Granite State Amicus’ Black Pearl.

….but we just call her “Pearl”

She surprised us with her arrival three days ahead of her due date and is simply amazing.

Pearl achieved all the milestones she needed to on her first day, weighing in at a healthy 18.1 lbs. She stood up within an hour of landing on the ground, started nursing 30 minutes later, began walking around exploring her surroundings, and did her first poop.  Any mother would be proud.

Pearl is starting to flood our social media already with her cuteness —- scratch that: adorableness — and is changing dramatically in her first week of life, having most recently “discovered her legs” and is now running constantly around the paddock and the pasture.

Her personality is a constant curiosity and a strong desire to play.  She’s trying hard to get her mom and aunties to play with her, with mild success.
and just celebrated turning one week old.
Pearl is ready for a friend to play with who won’t arrive for another month.
While we wait for Summer to have her cria, Pearl is ready to meet you in person.
Come & Meet Pearl
