This post is supposed to be about skirting fleeces. In fact, I had almost finished writing it. Then the farm had other plans. On Thursday, June 25, Summer welcomed her little boy, Oscar, and I had every intention of sitting down to tell you all about him and share some photos. But wait, there’s more! While I was at the grocery store Saturday morning, June 27, Indie decided it was time to have her baby. Indie & her daughter Nova. The funny thing is, Summer looked very pregnant for weeks. Indie didn't. Aside from being unusually moody throughout her pregnancy, nothing suggested Indie was carrying a cria at all. Her due date wasn't even until Sunday, June 28, and when I saw her during Saturday morning chores, there wasn't the slightest hint that she'd be giving birth a few hours later. So now, between Thursday and Saturday, we've welcomed two new crias to the herd! It also made me realize something. Every time I sit down to write one of my blog posts, something new happens. For example, I was planning to tell you about Oscar, and about skirting fleeces, then introduce you to Indie’s upcoming cria...and before I could even draft the first pargraph, Indie's baby had already arrived—and it’s a girl! 💗 The good news is that these are wonderful problems to have. The downside is that stories take time to write, and farm life doesn't pause while I'm writing. If you'd like to follow the day-to-day happenings as they unfold, I share quick updates, photos, and videos on social media as they happen. That's where you'll usually see the newest cria, funny moments, and surprises long before they make it into a newsletter or on this blog. You can follow along here: And on Sunday mornings, sometime between 8:00 and 8:30 am EST (depending on when I finish chores), you can join me for a Facebook Live with the alpacas on various alpaca & farm topics. I'll still be writing emails and blog posts. They’ll just focus more on the bigger stories once things settle down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I should probably get back outside before Lady decides it's time to have her baby...even though she's not due until July 12.
