Waiting for Summer's Second cria

With the summer solstice on the horizon, it seems appropriate to introduce you to our next expectant mother, Summer.​

She joined our herd in May 2021, newly pregnant with her (and our) first cria, Baxter, who is now 4 years old.  

Summer is expecting her second cria in just a few short weeks.

There are a few reasons that we’re excited about her next cria.  

1) Pearl will have a playmate.  

2) Her personality.  Summer is a very mellow and easy-going little alpaca.  Not much fazes her (unless Pearl is jumping at her trying to play), and she is very receptive to our company. She’ll be a good mom and allow us to care for her little one as we ensure her cria is off to a good start.

3) Her genetics.  Her first cria is white, despite the sire’s color (brown).  Will she do it again?  Summer’s mother and grandmother are both white alpacas who have both birthed white crias.  So the likelihood is there.  And secretly, I’m hoping she does, so don’t tell anyone I said that. Let’s keep that between just us.

​Also, we hope that Summer’s cria inherits her amazing fleece qualities.

When spun into yarn, her fleece transforms into a lovely champagne color with a hint of pink.

Summer's fleece from 2026 is at the mill being processed into yarn and we hope it will be available for sale by the end of the year.
